Swim & Dive Tryouts

Swim Tryouts: 2023-2024

Beginning November 6 – Start time 7:30 @ Freedom Center

  • Monday Nov 6 – Girls 100 Free and 100 Butterfly
  • Tuesday Nov 7 – Boys 100 Free and 100 Butterfly
  • Wednesday Nov 8 – Girls 100 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke
  • Thursday Nov 9 – Boys 100 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke

Important – At tryouts we need several parents to volunteer to time.

Note: We try to accommodate year-round swimmers by giving them the option to compete in all four events in one evening. However, this needs to be approved by the coaches prior to tryouts.

Dive Team Tryouts – 2023-2024

Divers will be coached this year by Coach Angie Baker and Assistant Coach Helen Reading.  Tryouts will be held from Monday, November 7 – Thursday, November 10. If you plan to tryout, please complete the online PWCS Dive Tryout Form. You must also contact BHS Swim Coach Jay Thorpe and complete all the steps required for school athletes. Anyone trying out for dive will need a blue card to give to Coach Angie at tryouts.

General Tryout Information
Before try-outs, you will need to take your current VHSL Physical Form and your concussion training form to Mrs. Nelson (Athletic Trainer) after school and she will give you a yellow form to bring with you to try-outs. You will not be permitted to tryout for a team without completing both forms and turning them into Mrs. Nelson and providing the yellow form from Mrs. Nelson at tryouts. Also, it is highly recommended that you turn your forms in well in advance of tryouts.

Team Selection

  • Should be announced between Nov 10-12, 2023.
  • Anticipate swim team size of 24 – 26 swimmers per gender
  • Anticipate dive team size of 4 divers per gender

It is highly recommended that you be in shape for tryouts. Only tryout times are counted for selection. No previous high school, summer league, or club times can be used. Coaches need to know about meet conflicts before try-outs.

After the selection of team members for the 2023-2024, you can complete the BHS Swim & Dive Online Registration Form.

Seniors

  • Captains (includes Dive)
  • Team Shirts – Design needed by 10/13
  • Senior Shirts – design needed by 10/13
  • Spriritwear – online this year

IMPACT Training – Once rosters have been finalized, swimmers and divers will be required to attend additional baseline testing as part of the concussion protocol. That date has not yet been set, but swimmers and divers will need to make arrangements to attend this testing.
