Battlefield Swim & Dive enjoyed their most successful campaign in school history. Both the boys and girls squads finished with a single loss in their dual meet seasons and tallied 13 new school records.
The boys team was led by Philip Manoff (Virginia Tech commit) who was state champion in the 100 Butterfly and earned All-American honors in two events. Philip also broke 4 individual and was a member of 3 relay records at Battlefield. Sophomore Henry Radzikowski shined throughout the season and finished 3rd in the 500 Free at States that also earned him All-American honors. Freshman Eric Liao led a strong group of incoming swimmers breaking two individual school records (100 Breaststroke and 200 IM), was a member of the record setting 200 Medley relay and finishing with a 6th and 16th place finish at states. Juniors Sebbie Borden and Luke DeVore also had great seasons as both were members of three record setting relays. Borden also finished 16th in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle events at states and DeVore finished 12th in the 100 Butterfly. The boys team enjoyed it’s best incoming class of Freshman with Eric Liao, Emmett Hannam, Theo Drescher, Preston Borden, Gleb Babahov, Wesley Calzada, Blake Eyre, Ean Helmlinger and Blake Marterella making immediate contributions to the team. Brandon Kite led the dive team with a 3rd place finish at districts and a strong finish at Regionals.
The girls team was not to be outdone. Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats was senior Emily Hetzer. Hetzer (Auburn commit) dominated the middle distance and distance events all season. She was state champion in the 500 Freestyle at states and earned All-American honors in two events that established new school records. She was also a member of the record setting 200 Freestyle relay. Right behind was a talented group of seniors in Morgan Furlong, Sydney King, Lauren Candland and Savannah Nash.
